How the two platforms have diverged
Cin7 started as an inventory and order management platform and has since expanded significantly, adding point-of-sale, EDI connections for big-box retail, and a large marketplace of integrations aimed at businesses selling across many channels at once.
Unleashed has stayed more narrowly scoped: inventory management with light manufacturing support, aimed at wholesalers and product businesses that want a focused tool rather than an expanding platform with modules they may never use.
The practical differences
Breadth is the main axis of difference: Cin7's expansion into POS and EDI means it can serve a business that also needs in-store retail or big-box EDI compliance from the same platform, but that breadth adds complexity and cost that a purely online or wholesale business will not use.
Unleashed's narrower scope generally means a more contained implementation for the inventory-and-manufacturing job specifically, at the cost of not covering POS or EDI in-house if a business later needs those.
- Cin7: broader connected-commerce platform (inventory, POS, EDI, integrations)
- Unleashed: narrower focus on inventory and light manufacturing
When both are more platform than you need
Both platforms are built for a business that already has real multi-channel or wholesale complexity to manage. A smaller operation — one warehouse, a handful of sales channels, still figuring out its processes — often finds either one heavier and pricier than the current problem calls for.
StockFlow covers the inventory and light-manufacturing core (barcode scanning, multi-location stock, BOMs, purchase and sales orders) without the platform breadth of Cin7 or the wholesale-specific assumptions baked into Unleashed, which fits better while a business is still growing into that complexity.
