What is work order management software?

Work order management software plans, assigns, and tracks the production jobs that turn a bill of materials into finished goods so builds stay on schedule and inventory updates itself as work gets done.

What Is a Work Order?

A work order is an authorized unit of production work: what to build, how much, and from which components. StockFlow generates work orders straight from your BOM, so component quantities and cost roll-up are calculated for you instead of recalculated by hand every run. See how it fits alongside manufacturing execution and production tracking.

Work Order Features

Work Orders From Your BOM

Generate a work order directly from a bill of materials so component quantities, routing, and cost roll-up are calculated automatically.

Planning Board

See every open, in-progress, and completed work order on one board, prioritized and sequenced without spreadsheets.

Build Recording With Stock Sync

Record a build against a work order and StockFlow consumes components and adds finished goods to stock automatically.

Yield & Lot Tracking

Compare expected vs. actual yield per work order and trace output back to the lots that went into it.

Frequently asked questions

What is work order management software?
Work order management software is a system for creating, scheduling, and tracking the jobs needed to build, repair, or maintain something turning a bill of materials or a service request into an assigned, trackable unit of work. In manufacturing, a work order specifies what to build, how much, and from which components; StockFlow ties each work order to its BOM so components are reserved and consumed automatically as the work is recorded.
How does a work order differ from a purchase order?
A purchase order buys materials from a supplier; a work order authorizes internal work turning materials you already have into a finished product, or performing a service or repair. Purchase orders increase stock on receipt, while work orders consume component stock and add finished-goods stock on completion.
Can I plan multiple work orders at once?
Yes. StockFlow includes a production planning board that shows every open work order by status and priority, so you can sequence what gets built next, spot capacity conflicts before they happen, and avoid last-minute schedule changes.
Does completing a work order update inventory automatically?
Yes. When a work order is recorded as built, StockFlow deducts the consumed components from stock per the BOM and adds the finished quantity to inventory, with lot and yield data captured at the same time no manual stock adjustments required.
Is work order management included in every plan?
Work orders, the planning board, and build recording are part of the StockFlow Production module, included free on Professional and above, or available as a low-cost add-on on other plans.
Can I track partial builds and yield against a work order?
Yes. StockFlow records actual output against the planned quantity per work order, so you can see expected-vs-actual yield, scrap, and lot detail for every production run.
