Warehouse space utilization shows what share of your storage capacity is currently occupied. It is one of the quickest indicators of whether you are running out of room or carrying too much empty space.
Enter the number of occupied positions and the total positions available. Use the same unit for both, such as pallet positions, shelf bins or floor area. A unit that mixes the two (for example, counting pallets in the numerator but square meters in the denominator) gives a meaningless result.
Utilization above roughly 85 to 90 percent is often a warning sign in practice, because forklifts and pickers need free locations to work efficiently. The right target depends on your layout, so compare against your own history rather than a universal number.

How the calculation works
Space utilization (%) = occupied positions ÷ total positions × 100.
Example: 640 occupied out of 800 positions is 640 ÷ 800 = 80 percent utilization, with 160 positions free.
A single average hides local problems: a warehouse can be 70 percent full overall while its fast-moving zone is completely blocked. Check utilization per zone as well.
